Max Retzlaff is a summer law clerk at Barran Liebman and a rising third-year student at Lewis & Clark Law School. In his role, Max assists with legal research, drafting and case preparation, and contributes to the development of client-facing materials and internal resources. Complimenting his legal education, Max has spent valuable time during each of his law school summers gaining experience supporting attorneys across a wide range of legal practices and enjoys the practical aspects of employment law and the human element of the practice area.
While in school, he is an active member of the Latinx Law Society and has been involved in promoting dialogue and professional development with other student organizations. Max was recognized as Best Oral Advocate in his first-year mock appellate arguments. In his second year, Max worked as a Peer Mentor where he helped new students adjust to law school, establish a collegial environment, and advised them on preparation for exams and oral argument.
Max earned his undergraduate degree from Oregon State University, where he completed a dual major in Political Science and Spanish. As part of his undergrad, Max studied at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and higher education in Querétaro, Mexico, where his studies focused on political forecasting in Mexican politics.
Outside of his academic and professional work, Max enjoys boxing, fly fishing, and cooking. He speaks Spanish and has a strong interest in history.
