Oregon employers are responsible for ensuring that their leave tracking systems properly account for an employee’s leave taken under each (or any combination) of potentially applicable laws, including Paid Leave Oregon, the Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA), or the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). However, each of these three laws differ in multiple respects, which often complicates the coordination of leave. Adding to the complexity, company policies governing paid time off, flexible time off, or parental leave can create additional, unintended entitlements to an employee’s time away from work. To assist employers in navigating protected leave, Barran Liebman attorney Stacie Damazo will discuss leave administration best practices.
